What So Funny? My Hilarious Life Tim Conway Jane Scovell Carol Burnett 9781476726502 Books

Mr. Tim Conway is a very funny man...

I remember first seeing him as the stumbling, bumbling Ensign Charles Parker in McHale's Navy and then later on the Carol Burnett Show, together with his own, short-lived show, where he again teamed up with Joe Flynn. Tim's ability to make people laugh and see the funny side of almost any situation in life are probably second to none.

It was therefore quite hilarious to read about how he came to be in show business and read about his exploits off camera through the years as well. It seems Tim just genuinely sees life as an amusing journey where he naturally syncs in to applying humour to it. For example when attending a party he wrapped his face in paper to resemble a 'Mummy' and then had someone take a photo of him, which he then clipped and slid into his license. Later, when pulled over by the police (and still wearing his 'Mummy' make up), he offered up his altered license. Fortunately the policeman had a sense of humour. Or his encounter with fellow comedian Don Knotts, who was dressed as a woman at the time, in a Bar.

I liked this book immensely as I found Tim's journey through life a very funny read and marvelled at how the author to whom he narrated these accounts to, was able to stay focused on capturing the essence of Tim Conway the man and the comedy genius. For anyone who remembers Tim in his early TV and movie appearances and wonders how he evolved into such a funny man, this book is a definite reading pleasure.

In summary a very well written and amusing account of probably one of the most funniest veteran 'funny men' still active today. Well done, Mr. Conway and thank you for showing us that life is not so serious after all!

What So Funny? My Hilarious Life Tim Conway Jane Scovell Carol Burnett 9781476726502 Books Reviews

This book is so amazing - like sitting in your favorite most comfortable chair in your living room and listening to the very funny and loving down-home person of Tim Conway. He is a very talented person beyond his comic self and shares so much of his inner self. The book is written and there's never a dull moment throughout!
I really enjoyed this book!
This man is so crazy, but in a good way. I enjoyed finding out about his childhood and how he grew up. You learn about his parents.
They were interesting and a little nutty-especially his father. Some of the things his father did were very dangerous because his father
thought they were OK. For instance,he overloaded the electrical outlet.(remember,in the 50's there were not too many in houses)
and disaster followed. His father worked with horses in Ireland and continued to do so when he came here.Tim helped and wanted
to be a jockey! So glad he got too big or we would have missed out on many laughs!
You learn more about his relationship with Harvey Korman and Carol Burnett. They all really loved each other and were devastated
when the show (Carol Burnett) ended. This is a fast read and enjoyable! Go for it!
What a fascinating story of Tim Conway's time in showbiz. If you loved him on Carol Burnett, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. Who knew this funny man knew so much about horses and had wanted to be a jockey before he outgrew that option. Lots of great anecdotes about his pals on the Burnett show, as well as "McHale's Navy." I couldn't put it down!
Tim Conway is one of the good ones - a truly nice guy who never misses an opportunity to do what he does best make people laugh. His autobiography is filled with laughs, as he takes the reader from his childhood in Ohio through McHale's Navy, the Carol Burnett Show, Dorf, and more. If you are old enough to remember his most prominent TV work, this book will bring back fond recollections of some iconic broadcast moments. If you're not, you owe it to yourself to find out what you missed. Either way, you'll enjoy finding out "what's so funny" about Tim Conway's hilarious life.
Of course, we all love Tim Conway. Just to hear his name is to "flashback" to Ensign Parker of McCale's Navy, and "the Dentist" etc. Well, this book tells you so much more about the background scenes to his shows. The main thing about the book is the "know the man" Tim Conway. When reading this book always remember that Babe Ruth was baseball's home run king, but at the same time, he had 700 strike outs.
The reason I don't give this book "5 stars" is because (and maybe it's because its the version) the photos are all at the end and not interspersed among the chapters. Would have been easier to have the photo match the subject.
Tim Conway is a real treasure, a funny man who believes in comedy. I was highly entertained by this delightful entertainer, with tales of his memories and stories of his shenanigans. "What's So Funny?" is a warm, feel-good book, and it will allow you to bask in his wonderment of the world. I loved it.
Tim Conway is one of the funniest comedians that I have ever seen on television. And, he's honest. In his book, he admits that his humor is best taken when he is a "second banana" on a TV show, and not trying to carry the show by himself. This was a delightful look at his life. I laughed out loud many times as he tells of his childhood, his adventures in the Army and his show business career. I highly recommend it.
